Getting Started with Chat
Learn how to use Rowland's Chat to get instant, expert-level answers and document analysis.
The Basics
Type your question or request directly into the chat window at the bottom of the screen. Rowland will respond almost instantly with an answer, guidance, or a drafted output.
If you are new to AI assistants, start simple:
"What can you help me with today?"
"What are the key elements of an oil and gas lease?"
"How do I read a title chain?"
Being Specific Gets Better Results
Vague questions yield general answers. Specific, detailed prompts yield precise, actionable responses. Compare the following:
| Less Effective | More Effective |
|---|---|
| Tell me about land agreements. | Draft a solar lease agreement for a 500-acre property in Texas. Include royalty terms, surface use restrictions, and a 25-year term. |
| Review this lease. | Take the role of an experienced landman. Review this oil and gas lease and identify the main provisions that I would include in a mineral ownership report. |
Uploading Documents for Analysis
You can upload documents directly into any active chat session by clicking the upload icon to the left of the chat input box. Rowland will then read, analyze, and respond to questions about the document.
Supported use cases include:
- Contract analysis and clause extraction
- Summarizing title opinions and curative requirements
- Extracting structured data from unstructured land records
- Due diligence and risk assessment
- Draft generation
- Analysis of right-of-way agreements
- Exporting data into ready-to-save spreadsheets
💡 Tip: Rowland can also analyze screenshots or snips of any document. Simply copy and paste the content into the Chat function, then enter your prompt.
Keeping the Conversation Going
Rowland supports multi-turn conversations. You do not need to ask everything in a single message. After receiving an initial response, follow up naturally:
"Can you give me a specific example of that?"
"What does 'habendum clause' mean in this context?"
"Expand on the royalty provisions you mentioned."
"Rewrite this in plain English for a landowner with no legal background."
"Create a table for me with the requested extractions."
📌 Note: If Rowland's response is not quite right, rephrase your question or ask for clarification. Small adjustments to how you phrase a prompt can significantly improve the output.
